El Patrol is a Swiss Art Collective, which pursues an approach that is increasingly known under the term ‘art & science’. This means the artists Zoe Fa and Tito Lee devote themselves to a topic over several years. Collaborating with scientists and experts they explore its scientific dimensions and translate their findings into artistic language. Their practice draws on experimental methods and incorporates material and technological innovation to create contemporary art that mirrors the complexity of our times.

Electromagnetic Fields
Most people can’t feel electromagnetic fields. They can’t be touched, they don’t taste and have no smell - but they are real, measurable and omnipresent. They move in waves, pass through walls and travel through space. The Earth itself oscillates electromagnetically, as do the artificial fields created by electricity, wireless communication, and data transfer. The electromagnetic phenomenon is not only tied to the world around us, but also to the human body: Thoughts are linked to electromagnetic fields in the brain. The heartbeat, nerve signals and cellular processes depend on delicate electrical currents and charges.
SUIRIS is dedicated to explore this phenomenon that connects technology, humans and space.

Oasis of calm
How do electromagnetic fields affect the human body?
This is the question we explore in a series of sculptural interventions that are designed to block all unwanted radiation. Our art events feature walk-in sculptures that serve as
radiation-free oases of calm. Visitors can experience what it feels like to be in a space untouched by electromagnetic influences. After all, experiments have shown that in these spaces brain activity slows down, sleep becomes deeper, and meditation becomes easier.

Towards the stars
We are convinced that humanity’s next evolutionary step depends on developing a deeper understanding of the electromagnetic world that surrounds us. After all, this very phenomenon remains one of the unresolved challenges preventing us from travelling safely to the stars: in space science, the question of how to protect the human body from cosmic radiation is still unsolved. At the same time, without Earth’s own radiation — the Schumann resonance — the emergence of life would have been impossible. Experiments on the International Space Station show this clearly: astronauts must artificially generate Earth’s frequency in order to grow plants.
Once we learn to balance the positive and negative effects of radiation here on Earth, humans and technology can coexist in true symbiosis. Only then will we be ready to reach for the stars. This idea is embodied in the SUIRIS emblem.
